Understanding the Interlocking Pavement system is key to a successful repair as well as installation. The main reasons why typical Interlocking Pavement Systems need repair is either because of poor compaction of the sub-soils and base materials, possible lack of base entirely or loss of system components, i.e, failed restraint system or erosion of bedding sand.

Poor compaction during the original installation process is a common factor especially around the coping area of pools.  Many pools are built by excavating the earth and tying steel and adding gunite.  It is typical to over excavate to make room for tying the steel.  A deep trench is the result around the pool.  If backfill material isn't the correct type or not compacted in "lifts", then, everything including topical pavers began to settle over time.  Conventional compaction equipment may not necessarily reach these tight areas to give proper compaction.

There are other contributing factors to this unsightly problem and toe stumper. Most can be repaired.   The best way to prevent system failure is to hire a Paver Installer who understands the systems and has a commitment to the paver industry installation standard by proper installation every time.

Most common paver sealers give pavers a wet look that enhance the color appearance.  Some sealers are selected because they block the sun's UV rays.  These damaging rays may fade the color of pavers over time.  Sealers usually repel stains as well.

A true paver is no less than 8,000 psi, is very dense and has a very low absorbsion rate.  All these atributes make for a virtually indestructable product.  Therefore, stains are naturally repelled because most stains will not absorb deeply and if treated quickly, may be removed.  Sealers can take any worry out of protecting your investment.  How the product is installed makes alot of difference in the projects longevity.  It is strongly recommended that a proper paver cleaning process be carried out prior to paver sealing.
